A Reading Revival
On the final night, as we wished for a glimpse of the moon through the clouds, on the occasion of Guru Purnima, the clouds parted to reveal a stunning view
Reading has always held a special place in my heart, and the PDBC retreat at The Gajner Palace was the perfect opportunity to rekindle that love. With a suitcase packed and excitement brewing, I headed to what I hoped would be a transformative experience.
Before the retreat, Priya and Chirag from the book club offered some book recommendations. Their suggestions were like a spark of inspiration, reigniting my enthusiasm for reading as I prepared for the journey.
Upon arriving at Gajner Palace, I was enveloped in an environment that felt straight out of a storybook. The palace, nestled in nature overlooking a lake, provided an enchanting backdrop that seemed tailor-made for rediscovering the joy of reading.
The retreat was filled with memorable moments, starting with the camel ride through the lush forest. It felt like stepping into an adventure. Followed by the palace tour, rich with history and stories, was like exploring a classic novel.
The next morning began with a thrilling wildlife safari and lakeside breakfast. The workshops on body movement and energy added a refreshing and insightful layer to our experience.
We seized every opportunity to read together: at the Ahmedabad railway station, inside the train waiting for Bikaner junction, and even after the camel ride. The highlight for me was our silent reading sessions, where we gathered in a serene space, each immersed in our own book. It felt like being part of a harmonious rhythm within a vibrant community.
The silent reading concluded with a delightful surprise—fortune cookies with quotes from Mirza Ghalib. Choosing a cookie and reflecting on the words together.
On the final night, as we wished for a glimpse of the moon through the clouds, on the occasion of Guru Purnima, the clouds parted to reveal a stunning view. It felt as though the universe was offering a perfect ending to our retreat—an enchanting conclusion to a journey of rediscovery.
By the end of the retreat, I felt inspired. My love for reading was rekindled, and I had become part of an enthusiastic community. The retreat was more than just a getaway; it was a heartfelt return to a cherished hobby and a reminder of the joy that books and a connected community can bring.
